Bicycle Rights!

Although I find the show Portlandia somewhat annoying and ridiculous, I have to admit that I love the bicycle rights segment.

Interviews 1, 2, and 3

Three interviews down, which may very well indicate three possible job opportunities.

Interview #1: Frogs Organic Bakery
http://www.frogsorganicbakery.com/about
The first interview was at Frogs Organic Bakery, which is owned by Jean-Luc Labat and Marc. They are off-the-boat Frenchmen and were highly disappointed to learn that I was American, rather than German, which they believed me to be. They told me I had very little experience (apparently one year in baking/pastry arts school and 3 years in commercial bakeries is not much experience) and that I would require quite a bit of training. They offered me two days next week to feel me out and see if they thought I would be capable to work at "the best bakery in West, if not in the whole United States." Oh Jean-Luc...

Here is a photo of Jean-Luc so you can put a picture to my description:

Interview #2: The Cake Boutique
http://www.cakeboutiquearizona.com/page/page/1299100.htm
This place is amazing. I interviewed with the owner, Mindy, who has to be one of the sweetest human beings alive. I had to demonstrate my cake decorating skills by frosting a small cake and adding a top and bottom border. They use Italian buttercream and I was really surprised with how easy it was to work with. It was incredibly easy to get a nice smooth final coat, nice flat and even tops, and crisp edges. Mindy asked if I would be available to work next week and said that she would give me a call early next week, after she interviews one other candidate. This place was really incredible. The website does not do it justice. I'm really holding out for this job.

Interview #3: The Village Bakehouse
http://www.villagebakehouse.com/
This place was also pretty amazing, primarily because the owner, Paulette, is also one of the sweetest people ever. The interview went great. I felt totally at ease, which I don't believe has ever occurred before. The Village Bakehouse is quite a ways away, in the Oso Valley, which is about ten or so miles from downtown Tucson. The place was swamped. Every table was crowded with people. Paula said that I was the first one she was going to call when there is an opening, but she is not sure if it will be next week or until the end of February, when she is thinking about pulling herself out of the kitchen. I could also see myself working there.

So ideally, I would get the job at the Cake Boutique and then get a job at The Village Bakehouse as well. I am waiting to hear from Mindy early this week. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I want a job, a bike, an apartment, my cats...then I can work on getting friends and all the other fun things. Pleaseeeee let me get this Cake Boutique job.

Bike, bike, run, run

I woke up and went for a run and then rode Laura's bike around and expertly crashed it. The tram tracks in Tucson are raised higher than the subway tracks in Buffalo and resulted in some nice brush burns and a rip in my new jeans. AWESOME! I have added some pictures for your viewing pleasure:

and the lovely knee. There are also some beautiful bruises on their way.

I spent the day reading looking up directions and then concluded my evening by doing Meet me at Maynards, which is a free community fitness initative. It starts are 5:45 and you sign in and are given e blinking arm light and then you run/walk 2,3, or 4 miles (they give you the routes), which take you through a lot of historic parts of Tucson and over the snake bridge which makes rattling snake noises.

Time to sleep and then the job hunt begins.
